This one-of-a-kind pilgrimage of the arts through Rome, Assisi, and Florence will take you on a journey of discovering the beauty and richness of the Catholic faith through holy art, architecture, history, and culture. Contemplate the masterpieces of Caravaggio, the sculptures of Michaelangelo, and the frescoes of Giotto. Enjoy an architecture tour led by a Notre Dame faculty member. Pray at the tombs of saints like St. Peter, St. Paul, St. John Paul II, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Monica, St. Ignatius, and many more.

PILGRIMAGE

 

Dates of this pilgrimage are: October 18-27, 2020

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Sunday, October 18 - Depart U.S. for Rome (flights not included in package)

  • Day 2: Monday, October 19 (D) - Arrive Rome, transfer to hotel. Evening reception at the Rome Global Gateway, followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Rome.

  • Day 3: Tuesday, October 20 (B, D) - Morning Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, followed by an in-depth tour and time to climb cupola, pray, reflect, and receive Reconciliation. Lunch on your own and Scavi tour (pending availability). Vatican Museums tour featuring a private visit to the Sistine Chapel (pending availability) and evening reception. Overnight in Rome.

  • Day 4: Wednesday, October 21 (B,D) - Papal Audience in St. Peter’s Square, followed by lunch on your own. Afternoon architecture tour or lecture with Notre Dame faculty member, concluding with Mass and dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Rome.

  • Day 5: Thursday, October 22 (B) - Ancient Rome Tour including the Coliseum, Palatine Hill, and the Imperial Roman Forum. Free time to explore the city. Dinner on your own and overnight in Rome.

  • Day 6: Friday, October 23 (B,L) - Artistic highlights of the Roman churches and Major basilicas, including the masterpieces of Caravaggio, Mary Major, and John Lateran, including lunch. Afternoon optional visit to the St. Peter’s mosaic studio (pending availability). Dinner on your own and overnight in Rome.

  • Day 7: Saturday, October 24 (B,L) - Tour of Assisi including Chiesa Nuova, St. Francis’ baptismal church, original San Daminao crucifix, Basilica of St. Mary and Angels, Porziuncola and place of St. Francis’ death, and Basilica of St. Francis, including lunch. Dinner on your own and overnight in Assisi.

  • Day 8: Sunday, October 25 (B,L) - Transfer to Florence. Visit to the Florence Cathedral (Duomo) and Baptistry, followed by lunch. Afternoon visit to the Accademia Gallery to see Michaelangelo’s David Statue. Dinner on your own and overnight in Florence.

  • Day 9: Monday, October 26 (B, D)

    • Option 1: Free time in Florence for individual visits to the Uffizi Gallery, Medici Chapels, or other options (tickets not included)

      OR:

    • Option 2: Day-trip to Siena, including a vineyard visit to see how olive oil and local wines are made (optional add-on of $179 per person)

    • Evening farewell dinner and overnight in Florence

  • Day 10: Tuesday, October 27 (B) - Transfer to airport and fly to U.S. (flights not included in package)

(B,L,D) denotes meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) which are included in the package.

Pilgrimage package includes:

  • Preparation and follow-up materials delivered via email

  • A dedicated pilgrimage guide who will accompany the group, supplement with local guide(s)

  • Custom-designed booklet for each pilgrim

  • All tickets and donations for included activities listed on itinerary

    • Vatican Museums tour, featuring a private visit to the Sistine Chapel (pending availability)*

    • Scavi tour (pending availability)

    • Tickets to Coliseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, and Accademia Gallery

  • Private transfers on minivans or motor coach

  • 8 nights accommodations in double-occupancy rooms, including taxes, in 4-star hotels (single-occupancy supplement available, with limited availability)

  • Breakfast daily at hotel, 3 lunches, and 4 dinners

  • Whisper sets for each pilgrim

  • Gratuities for guide(s), driver(s), bellman/chambermaid(s), and meals

  • Online preparation webinar for all pilgrims to review itinerary, activities, logistical arrangements, and prayer resources

*Please note that the private visit to the Sistine Chapel is pending availability. If, in the rare chance, we cannot schedule the included event, an alternate activity for a similar value will be included.

Package does not include:

  • Round-trip airfare (optional add-on for $40 per person ticketing fee)

  • Passport, visa, or luggage fees

  • Any personal purchases

  • Meals while traveling, drinks at meals, as well as 5 lunches and 4 dinners

  • Recommended travel insurance (available through Notre Dame Alumni Association)

  • Anything else not explicitly mentioned as included


PAYMENT

 

Pilgrimage package as low as: $5,249 per person*

*Pilgrims save $300 if they sign up before October 1st, 2019, and elect to pay balance by check

Pilgrimage package total cost: $5,549 per person

Options:

  • Siena day-trip: + $179 per person (please select the package option “Core including Siena day-trip” during registration)

  • Single room supplement: + $949 per person

  • Early-bird savings (sign up before October 1st, 2019): Save $200 per person

  • Pay balance by check: Save $100 per person

  • Mosaic studio workshop: Pricing TBD (details about this workshop will be shared with registered pilgrims at a later date

Payment Schedule:

  • Deposit - $300 due upon registration

  • Final Balance: June 18th, 2020

How do I pay?

  • Deposit of $300 due upon registration and can be paid via credit card or debit card online.

  • The final payments may be paid credit/debit card, check, money order, or electronic bank transfer for no fee. Or, you can elect to "pay balance by check" during registration and save $100 off your pilgrimage fee. If you elect this option, you can make the final payment via electronic bank transfer, check, or money order. Checks and money orders can be made payable to "Verso Ministries LLC".

Registration is open until filled. If space is still available, registrations may be made at any time.

Late registrations made after June 18th, 2020 are subject to availability and may be subject to a different pilgrimage price. Registrations made after this date also may be subject to an alternate pilgrimage cost depending on availability. Please contact us directly if you have any questions.

Cancellation Policy:

All cancellations must be made in writing. $150 of the $300 deposit is non-refundable.

Cancellation fees are as follows:

  • 91 days or more from first day of pilgrimage: $150

  • 90-31 days prior: $300

  • 30-15 days prior: $500.

  • 4-7 days prior: $1000

  • 6 days or less no refund will be given.

Any cancellation charges incurred from other supplies or vendors (lodging, ground transportation, etc.) will come in addition to the administrative fees listed above. Cancellation fees are for individual pilgrims.

Why is this is an estimated final package price?

Final airline taxes and fees may fluctuate until flights are ticketed (about 30 days prior to departure). Any excess fees levied by the airlines beyond the original total price at time of booking will be the responsibility of each pilgrim. Also, quoted prices are based on the current exchange rate of 1 Euro to 1.2 U.S. dollar. Final price may fluctuate based on final exchange rates when travel vendors finalize payments.
